| The Swiss Society Newsletter |
January 2008 Dear Members and Friends of the Swiss Society of New York: It is my pleasure to introduce a periodic Swiss Society Newsletter to inform you of our activities. We will publish it electronically approximately three times a year: winter, spring/summer, and autumn. I believe the membership will be well served through this forum. The Newsletter will be sent to our members via email and will be posted on our website for the Swiss community. I ask that you take a moment to visit the redesigned website (www.SwissSocietyNY.com). It has been expanded with a number of features and has been made easier to navigate. General information, upcoming events, membership, and sponsor links are all easy to find. Please scroll through these pages and take special note of the sponsors that support our activities. We added a photo page showing notable past events and acknowledgements of major contributors. You may already know that we accept electronic payments via PayPal. In the future you will be able to manage your membership account information at the website. The Annual Swiss Ball 2008 will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the Pierre Hotel. We are pleased to announce that Henry Haller, former chef to five Presidents of the United States, will be the Guest of Honor. The Swiss Ball is held under the Patronage of Ambassador Christoph Bubb and Mrs. Regula Bubb. Mrs. Bubb is the Honorary Chairperson of the Swiss Ball Committee. Ms. Jeannette Seifert is the Swiss Ball 2008 Chairperson, and with the efforts of Mrs. Christine Hubacher a Silent Auction will be introduced. An award-winning 10-piece band specializing in 1920’s and 1930’s music will be providing the dance music. We are also pleased to announce that proceeds from the Silent Auction will fund this year’s Swiss Society Award. In recognition of the professional field of guest of honor Henry Haller, the award will be given to a Swiss or Swiss-American student in the culinary arts. The monthly Networking Event is extremely successful. It takes place on the first Tuesday of every month at the restaurant Naples 45 located in the Met Life Building next to Grand Central Station. Please drop in from 6 to 8 pm. Our traditional Fondue dinner will take place in late February. In early March we will have a private tour and reception at MoMA exhibiting '50 Years of Helvetica', and in April we expect to have a presentation by key players in the area of global warming. I wish to thank our volunteer Board of Directors for their efforts! I look forward to seeing you at our events. Best wishes for a prosperous, healthy, happy New Year! Kind regards, Beat F. Reinhart |
